Things I've Done to Procrastinate Writing
A nonfiction list of things I have actually done instead of writing!
New tradition alert: Fun(ny) Fridays! Each Friday, I’ll give you some info or share a little about me in a way that aims to make you *chuckle* as you head into your weekend.
This Friday, I’m sharing ten things that I have actually done to procrastinate writing. Although humbling, this list is a good reality check for me: it’s my way of reminding myself to stay focused on the “author” part of my life - and not just the chores part, the social media part, or… a plethora of other things that I tell myself I “need” to accomplish during my set-aside writing time. Honestly, it’s quite impressive what I’ve come up with as more important or time-sensitive alternatives to my literal lifeline.
So here they are… try to find this list shameful rather than inspiring, okay? 😉
Deep cleaned my entire apartment: it wasn’t dirty, and no one was coming to visit. I just did it.
Texted a guy I wasn’t interested in: shameful, I know.
Got a boyfriend: Different guy than in #2, I PROMISE (don’t tell him)!
Did ghoulish makeup in case I ever decide to become goth (I’m never going to become goth).
Went to college: Now I’m more marketable for freelancing, right?
Recorded myself singing and/or dancing to jumpstart my TikTok career, even though I don’t have TikTok.
Joined Instacart: It was the summer of 2021, just out of the COVID slump. I had to make some cash on my break from college; there was no other choice.
Volunteered at church: I care about people, I really do, but there may have been a few times I was just glad I had something on my to-do list other than writing.
Visited the VA “just to see it”: I started writing memoirs, so of course I had to see the local VA! How else would I get in the war story writing spirit?
Wrote this article instead of working on my novel: At least I’m writing!
The hard-hitting question here is whether reading this article is your way of procrastinating on writing. It’s okay if the answer is yes, though. I truly appreciate that my page has become an outlet for your procrastination. Watch, I’ll even help you out by adding a task to your putting-off-work time: Share with me your own list of procrastination tactics in the comments. 😊
Thanks for reading today’s article! Happy Weekend!
My plan this morning was to finish my latest post, but then you came up and have taken that time away🤣🤣🤣
For no 2, did that guy ever text yo back?
