^^ โBUT WAIT, EMMA! YOU FOOL! YOU HAVENโT TOLD US WHY WE SHOULD SUBSCRIBE YET!โ
Ah, yes. My apologies. I really jumped the gun on that one.
So in all transparency, another thing that was holding me back from posting was my sheer inability to choose which of my writing ideas to pursue first. And while, in my (very limited) free time, I will be writing a novel, here on Substack I am very excited to launch a different project: Allegory Landing!
Welcome to Allegory Landing (with Emma Nelson, naturally ๐), your new go-to read showcasing the intersection between memoir writing, fiction, and philosophy. Each week, I will publish either (a) a brief discussion of a topic that I think readers often ignore - or rather, are led to ignore - in the worlds of political science, history, and modern American society, or (b) memoir/freelance writing tips and tricks from my experience as a full-time freelancer! Some of the topics that I cover have likely been considered by students of political science, history, and literature at some point during their educational journeys. However, I tackle the topics that we donโt see a lot of answers for or that we are discouraged from thinking about too deeply. I truly hope my articles will intrigue you, and maybe even serve as inspiration for your own writing. Iโll also throw in some topics that are just for laughs - life is way too short not to have a little fun with this!
Monthly, I will also post either a short story or a snippet from the novel Iโm currently working on. My short stories are mostly allegorical, and I hope you have just as much fun finding the allegories hidden within them that I had in writing them. Fiction writing is my passion, but Iโm torn in choosing what to write about because I also love tackling real-world topics - I believe that, as a society, itโs vital that we move forward with writing thatโs both beautiful AND useful. So this is my self-compromise - Iโll write both!
My hope is that, as my reader, you will (1) be entertained by my writing, (2) discover the hidden allegories within each story (and find some of your own that I hadnโt even considered!), and (3) question the topics we are told not to question.
Mostly, though, I hope that you will help me grow as a writer. Challenge me! I love to write, but that doesnโt mean Iโm great, or even good, yet. One day, I hope to be - but I need your help! No writer is perfect, which is the beauty of an art at which you can always improve. But at some point in my writing journey, I aspire to be the kind of writer whose words make you forget youโre even reading. Help me get there!
Just by being here and reading this, youโre helping me pursue that dream. Thanks for being here - it means more to me than youโll ever know.
Bring them on!
