For sure! Do you have specific question(s) or are you just looking for general info on how to become one?

I feel that. It’s kind of confusing and overwhelming when you’re just getting started or considering ghostwriting. I’ll send you a chat with some of the resources that most helped me when I entered the world of ghostwriting, and since I’m so grateful you asked about it, I’ll plan on creating a post on exactly that to go under my Writing FAQs tab!! I’m just heading to bed (it’s late here), but I’ll send you that chat first thing tomorrow. 😄😄

PS I freaking love your comedy. It brightens my day every time you post.

I did do freelancing after I retired but came to the conclusion that it was better for me to have the freedom to do something or nothing as I felt inclined. Putting together and proof reading and editing people’s life stories is time consuming. Once you reach a certain age you realise that your time is far more valuable than currency. One is always replaceable whilst the other is not able to be extended by effort. Unfortunately time is rarely on your side no matter what the song said so I like to please myself nowadays. Even if varied versions of casseroles can feature largely on my home cooking efforts .

Thanks for sharing!! I agree, as a young adult I’m unfortunately still in the “hamster wheel” of needing to make money to survive; however, I’m so grateful that I can make money doing what I love! I hear you, though - I’m also really careful not to lose my passion for writing. I do a lot of writing projects for my own joy, like many of my Substack posts and a novel I’m currently working on. If you like the concept of maintaining your passion, I have a post on this from just last week.

Thanks again for sharing! ☺️

There's such a lot of good information here, soom cookbook authors may need help with their writing. Would it help if you were listed in 'CollabStack' a section of the FoodStack Library. https://foodstacklibrary.substack.com/p/collabstack

There was a time when I wanted to be a professional ghostwriter, although I'll admit, I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's because I like having at least some of the blanks filled-in for me before I start writing instead of having to do it all myself. Somewhere on the road to publishing my first book, I seem to have lost that dream. The closest I've ever come to doing it was when I wrote a short story for my friend for her birthday (not the best experience because she asked for something WAY outside my wheelhouse, but I still wrote it).

The dream of writing knowing at least one person really wants your work and getting to help people with writing in a direct way is still alluring, but based on your cons (especially marketing and being self-driven) I think it's a dream I'm better off not pursuing.

Hey! Thanks for sharing. I was honestly pretty overwhelmed by the amount of marketing required when I first started ghostwriting full-time. I'm not a huge fan of marketing, but I see it as one of those things that I just have to do to keep my ghostwriting career afloat. I try to make it fun as much as I can by diversifying the avenues through which I market and by setting weekly marketing goals for myself, but it's definitely not my favorite. I'm a writer at heart!

I've always been alright at self-imposed structure, so that wasn't as much of an issue for me personally, but I know that it can be really hard! Perhaps ghostwriting isn't for you, and that's ok - but there are plenty of other writing-focused career options that you can pursue if you're thinking about making writing your every day job!

Very nice of you to share this. I much prefer working with people I know already or word of mouth.

It’s the best way to start out and grow your initial client list, which can be hard if you don’t have many people to start with. But building connections IS possible! ☺️
