We love these stories because fiction often imitates some part of life. Jeff Bezos started out working at McDonalds. Elon Musk worked shoveling grain at a farm. Somewhere along the way they broke out of the pack and were seen as “worthy” for greatness. So many real life success stories start with humble beginnings and they are compelling stories indeed. So when we read of unlikely hero’s in fiction, it’s just close enough to reality to buy in - and the rest of the story which may be complete fantasy is now grounded in something we can relate to. And then we are drawn into the story and all its wonder.
